This is an outfit I have been so excited to share. Not only am I in love with the design of this dress, but it was actually made special for me by a VERY talented friend! I about died when he surprised me with it. The fabric, the draping, and the frayed, asymmetrical hemline…obsessed. Such an extraordinary piece, thank you, Willis! ♥

It likely comes as no surprise when I say that I am a complete and total wine freak. Drinking red wine is, like, my favorite pastime. Seriously. I’m almost always drinking wine while writing my blog posts (this one is no exception), and I find myself most inspired a glass or two in. So, when I was approached by the Bordeaux Wine Council to judge their “My Bordeaux Blend” contest, it was an obvious YES!

Bordeaux has been all over the place in the fashion world lately…I have always loved the color, and find myself incorporating it into outfits more and more frequently. If you can relate, you should definitely check this out!

All you need to do to enter is snap and upload a photo to Instagram using the hashtag #BordeauxBlend, with a brief description that explains how Bordeaux and fall fashion are the inspiration behind the image. Eligible entries include a snapshot of an outfit, home décor, or other examples of fall style. Easy peasy!

Not one, not two, but THREE winners will receive a prize worth $500, featuring a set of Riedel wine glasses and some Bordeaux-hued designer accessories. Click HERE to learn more about the contest, and for terms and conditions.

Entries can be uploaded to Instagram between November 27 and December 31. Cant wait to see your wine-inspired looks!

I am so drawn to comfort in the form of a slouchy top styled up with a well-fitted pair of jeans. Fortunately, there are more than enough ways to make this sort of look a lot less frumpy than it sounds! Let’s take it from the top…

When it comes to fashion, there’s nothing I’m a bigger advocate for than having a good collection of basics: soft tees, cozy knits, and great layering pieces. Since temps have dropped, I’ve started stocking up on sweaters like nobody’s business. But lately, instead of going for the simplest, most wearable options, I’ve been looking for staples with a little sass. I love the speckled thing this T by Alexander Wang sweater has going on!

These jeans are super fitted, but without being the least bit annoying to wear. I swear, with James Jeans you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort…gotta love good quality denim. I decided to roll these up and go for the cropped look, which I am sort of a sucker for these days.

The trick to jazzing up a super simple ensemble…it’s all about accessories. Not always a fan of the matchy-matchy, but I couldn’t resist pairing my burgundy Getty backpack with these lace-up heels by Opening Ceremony. Guess I just love the way this color compliments the grassy green! Topped things off with a funky fur hat and called it a day.

James Jeans has been kind enough to extend their promotion for OnTheRacks readers for an additional month! Just use code JJ008 at checkout for 25% off your entire purchase. Perfect time to stock up on some sweet denim…enjoy!

While I have never considered myself to be a suit kinda girl (in fact, I think this may be the first time I’ve ever worn one), I have to say I’m a total sucker for this particular set by Mina + Olya. Such a cool color, and cropped to perfection! Not only that, but I swear there was something sort of empowering about wearing it…made me feel all profesh!

Here I combined a mishmash of similar-hued garments, to form a look that made me feel like somewhat of a decked out park ranger. Always a sucker for neutral, earthy tones…I decided to go all out on this one! Something I have been doing a lot of lately is styling dresses as skirts — just throwing a fun blouse or sweater over the top. Adds an extra layer of warmth and endless possibilities!

Perhaps it was the presidential election, Veteran’s Day, or the inspiring sight of New Yorkers coming together post-Sandy, but apparently I was feeling more than a little bit patriotic when I put this look together. I am so obsessed with this vintage I ♥ NY tee…robbed it from a friend’s dresser drawer last week (thanks, Shan!), and have been wearing it on repeat ever since. Also pretty jazzed that it is now corduroy and beanie season! Hooray for fall fashion.

I don’t often like to use this blog as a place to complain about life when things don’t go my way, but last month, with this post, I pledged I’d to go back to being more open and honest on here. Recently I am finding that being single and living alone in a big city, with a demanding job and a laundry list of responsibilities, ain’t always a cakewalk. The days where I wake up less than inspired and confused about the path I am on have become more frequent…which at times makes finding the motivation to take on new challenges a hard and scary thing. Do you guys ever feel that way??

I am still madly in love with Manhattan, and realize how fortunate I am to be living here. Hard as it may be at times, not a day goes by where I don’t have one of those surreal “aha” moments as I take in the incredible city that surrounds me. But I have undoubtedly entered into a new chapter – just shy of a year here, and I’m starting to think that maybe the honeymoon phase is coming to a close. This love affair is far from over, but perhaps it’ll just be less of a fairytale than I’d initially expected. It might not be sunshine and rainbows all the time, but the ups and downs are what keep life interesting. I am learning that even a bad day has its good moments…sometimes you just need to look a little harder for them.
