Look Ma, No Hands!

17 Oct

Fanny packs rule, and it’s not the first time I’ve professed my love for these clever little pouches. This vintage Vivienne Westwood one I got from Crossroads a while back came in quite handy on Saturday at the Treasure Island music festival. There’s nothing more annoying than a bulky purse with big crowds, and lots of dancing and standing around!

Today Blake and I hit up our local farmers market, then spent the rest of our day eating junk food and being bums. I’m a firm believer that the best kinds of Sundays are lazy ones.

OnTheMap: San Francisco Shopping

15 Oct

People often ask what my favorite stores are in SF, and I always wind up forgetting a few! To give justice to all the glorious fashion spots in the city, I figured I’d create a little map of my local haunts. There are so many amazing (often under-appreciated and sometimes hidden) places to shop here and below are a few of my top picks… just in time for the weekend.

Hopefully you’ll find this useful if you live here, are visiting, or planning a trip to SF soon! Click on the map markers for the name, a brief description, and links for each store and be sure to let me know some of your own favorite spots around the city. Any I left out?

A Faux Summer Fairy Tale

13 Oct

It’s funny how when temperatures rise above 80 degrees in SF, everyone goes a little wild. People are out about town on weeknights… sipping cocktails, and wearing skimpy little summer things. It’s like we’re in the Bahamas or something… like a full-fledged tropical summer. After record breaking low temperatures, we’re ready to take our lemons and make some friggen lemonade (with vodka, in our case).

Crochet, while much more fitting for summer than fall, has quickly become one of my favorite trends… that along with leather, velvet, and sheer things. When I spotted these crochet booty shorts (yes, they’re that tiny) on Urban 1972, I put practicality aside and decided they must be mine! I sort of feel like a little kid when I wear these shorts, and I think that’s what I like best about them.

Sunshining Armor

11 Oct

This has been one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while. Blake, Lola and I spent so much time outside enjoying the glorious warm weather that finally struck San Francisco. It makes me so happy to be able to leave the house without a jacket, and its about time I got to wear these leather Zara shorts I got over a month ago!

Isn’t this “sweater” neat? The thread its knit with is very metal-esque… it has an armored knight kind of vibe, I feel.

It was Fleet Week so we watched the jaw-dropping air show two days in a row… Saturday from my brother’s roof deck, and Sunday from the patio of a local Mexican restaurant, while snacking and sipping margaritas. The Blue Angels are mind-blowing – it’s incredible to see planes fly that close together!

I was one of the lucky few that had a work holiday today. There’s nothing better than a 3-day weekend. Happy Columbus Day! I spoiled myself with a massage at Burke Williams, which was nothing short of glorious. I’m a total advocate of the occasional pamper-fest… it’s just good for the soul.

You just got Schouled

9 Oct

Fashion Week is over… New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Looking back I think my favorite S/S 2011 collection of all is Proenza Schouler. I mean, common with those sheer dresses. So killer.

Come fly with me

4 Oct

It’s been a while since I felt like a princess in a dress, but this little butterfly number does the trick. Thanks MOM + DAD for the most amazing birthday present ever! It’s basically everything I’d ever look for in a dress… flowy, romantic, and sort of slutty in length (sorry mom, but its true). I love this dress. <3

Paired it with some slouchy socks and my trusty Zoe boots. Wait, it’s fall?

Leather and lace

3 Oct

I think the best way to wear leather is with lace, and vice versa. I love pairing opposite extremes — dainty and tough… girly things with masculine pieces.

It’s been a while since I’ve done an “inspiration post”, but today I’m feeling inspired. Blake and I have a lovely little apartment, but lately things have been falling apart. A burnt out light here, a hole in the wall there – you know how it goes.

We spent the entire day doing home improvement, and I’m feeling so much better! We even bought a new rug and a dresser. Can you believe I didn’t have a dresser?

I wish I could make our house more girly – kind of like these photos – but, well, it’s all about compromise! I think a little bit of both of us shows through in the way our place is decorated… probably the way it should be. Girly things with masculine pieces. At least Blake has good taste for a dude!

OK, closet cleanout time! Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. <3
