Windblown

28 Jul

Windblown

Over the weekend we went to a friend’s amazing art show, drank wine (surprise, surprise), and hung out on another roof. San Francisco was being its typical self… blowing wind like a mofo. Just the weather I hope for on a day when I’ve washed my hair. NOT.

Oh well, at least the sun came out for like 5 minutes!

I bought these crazy pants last week, and am sad to say the zipper already broke. At lease I got one solid wear out of them. And then my shoes broke. I’ve been walking around with flopping soles and have simply been too lazy to take them in. That and I have a hard time parting with my favorite pieces… even if only for a few days. I guess you could say I have attachment issues. And I don’t know how to properly care with my things. I’ll work on it!!

Happy hump day! xoxo Laura

I love these images… it’s like they capture a place that’s halfway between reality and some dream world. So pretty <3

Tourist trap

Tourist trap

I have always been a lover of fanny packs… in my opinion they’ll never be out of style. Fanny packs are the perfect alternative to a heavy carryall – great for long days with lots of walking. Seriously… they are so practical!

We recently spent a lovely afternoon playing tourist in Fisherman’s Wharf -stuffing our faces with clam chowder, and fried fish… sipping away our hangovers with bloody marys. Didn’t I totally dress the part?!

Mystic Revere

22 Jul

The god awful weather here in SF has me longing for hot days, balmy nights, and lounging in fancy swimwear… cocktail in hand. Viewing some of the gorgeous, beachy collections shown at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Miami makes the craving for a true summer that much stronger.

One of my favorites was Mara Hoffman’s Swim Resort 2011 Collection, Mystic River. She just has a way with color and works her magic to create stunning “swimwear” that you could absolutely wear out.

Now I want more than just a true summer — I want to flee to the Amazon… Mara Hoffman-filled luggage in tow. Guessing I won’t make it out there any time soon and since the collection won’t hit stores ’til October, for now I’ll have to settle for face paint and a tanning salon.

Dead Ballerina

Dead Ballerina

Blake and I went to afternoon tea yesterday at the Fairmont Hotel – I think it’s one of those things in the city that you should do at least once. It was super fancy, and truth be told, I felt a little out of place. But that’s not to say we didn’t totally enjoy ourselves!

We sipped tea and Champagne in the lovely Laurel Court Restaurant and snacked on mini sandwiches and sweet treats into the afternoon. The dessert plate was out of this world – so scrumptious and beautifully presented.

I think I ended up wearing this outfit to pay homage to my childhood princess tea parties. Whenever I try and dress super girly, though, I always end up adding a touch of the opposite extreme – black, smokey eye makeup and tough shoes in yesterday’s case.

Following our tea date, we walked around the neighborhood and checked out this crazy looking building. We’ve seen it in passing but have always been unsure of it’s actual purpose. I have heard gentlemen’s club and secret society –- could probably figure it out with minimal research, but I’d rather let it keep that mystique.

This city never ceases to amaze me. Just when I feel I know it like the back of my hand, I’ll come across something new.

Downtown SF is even more than the eclectic concrete jungle it appears to be. To our surprise we’ve recently discovered that throughout the Union Square area there are numerous rooftop “parks” open to the public. Many thanks to those nature-lovers! Peace, love, and parks… right? Uhh, right.

Blake and I did a little exploring after work and were pleased to find this secret little spot – perfect for lounging and soaking up those final rays of sunshine before calling it a day.
