Hot child in the city

31 May

Hot child in the city

This weekend was hot. And I do not use this word lightly — in fact, I probably only describe the weather as such 3 or 4 times a year in San Francisco! It was the perfect climate for celebrating the three-day weekend outside. I did a little vintage shopping, hit the Nordstrom half-yearly sale, and hung out on our stoop with Blake, Lola, and a bottle of vino.

I would usually be a little sad to see a long weekend come to an end, but in two days I set off to Orange County for a friend’s wedding! I cannot wait to see my family. I love going home. If only Blake and Lola were coming with me it would be the perfect little trip.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend filled with fun and happy memories! xx

Waiting to exhale

Waiting to exhale

I love how simple and beautiful these photos are. Colorless and natural with an Alexander Wang kind of vibe. Who ever would have thought football-style jerseys would be fashionable?

I wish I looked this good with no makeup on. Or even with makeup on, for that matter. Makes me want to take my pants off and smoke.

La Lacey Leo

27 May

La Lacey Leo

I have recently found myself wanting a lace leotard. No,  not the most practical article of clothing, but I desire one nonetheless.  Whether worn under a low-cut dress, with a pair of denim shorts & a blazer, or all by itself (in the bedroom only, please) – the sheer onesie is sure to add just the right dose of sexiness to your look. Here are some of my favorite lacey leos:

I plan to do some shopping this weekend and will definitely be on the lookout for the perfect bodysuit. If my attempts fail, I will probably order the Only Hearts one from above!

Too bad if this icky SF weather keeps up I will have to bury my pretty onesie under layers and layers of sweaters, coats, and scarves. Boo!

All chalked up

All chalked up

I spent most of my childhood swinging the uneven bars (I was a gymnast for 11 years), so being covered head-to-toe in chalk is not new to me. However, I never thought this to be an even remotely glamorous look until laying eyes upon this editorial from Vogue China.

I have always thought ballerinas to be beautiful beings…even before the Chanel tutu (video below). They’re tall, skinny, and graceful — ultra- rhythmic fashion models, if you will. I think I’ll get tickets to The Nutcracker this year.

Bittersweet Sundays

Bittersweet Sundays

Sundays are bittersweet. Today I slept in and laid in bed for a solid amount of time before taking on the day. But what a day it was! I shopped and chillaxed at the park with LizAimee, and our clan of wild puppies. Lola, Linguini, and Charcoal really hit it off. I am confident that surrounding oneself with 100+ puppies is the key to happiness. Blake thinks I am insane.

But with Sunday comes Monday (always too soon), and with Monday comes another week of hard work. I am not complaining but I will definitely miss the laziness.

Darling

<p>I have a pair of <a title=sunglasses sort of like these, without the bi-colored lenses. I do love mine, but I think I love these much more. This picture is darling!

After a lazy day yesterday (a very lazy day) I am gearing up to head downtown and make a few returns. And you know what that means… extra $$ to shop with! Life is good. Hope the weather is nicer than yesterday.

Happy Sunday ♥

Stilts on a Stoop

20 May

Stilts on a Stoop

These are the shoes I told you about here. I decided to give them the debut they deserve and wear ‘em out to ChicSocial - the Chictopia x Crossroads shopping event this week. I sipped cosmos and chitchatted with Liz of Late Afternoon and Kristine of Eli Presentacion - two lovely, talented bloggers I have befriended along the way.

I was delighted to find a great pair of high-wasted shorts & an incredible vintage Vivienne Westwood fanny pack… it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. I mean, seriously, how awesome to not have to lug around my giant purse!

So glad it’s almost the weekend. Tomorrow Blake and I are attending a “team cook”  so that should be interesting. Blake will have to carry our team for sure. I will stand close by and provide moral support while consuming copious amounts of wine. We all have our talents, right?

Nude lips sink ships

Grungy and gorgeous. Really… can you go wrong with messy hair, nude lips, and peacock colors? I think not.

Birthday Cake

17 May

Birthday Cake

Over the weekend we went to Oyster Fest to drink to my sister’s 21st, taste the local fare, and dance to Cake (one of Blake’s favorite bands)! The best part was Lola accompanied us on our outing… everything is better with my animal co-pilot.

The weather was not ideal, but we made-d0 with bundles and blankets. I tried to brighten things up a bit with my pastel-colored outfit. Nothing like purple jeans and a mint-green tee to light up the mood, right? It is spring after all…

Two birds with one stone

Two birds with one stone

“I like my money right where I can see it… hanging in my closet.” -Carrie Bradshaw

 /></a></h6>
<p style=By now you probably know that I really like shoes. Problem is my obsession is putting both strain on my bank account and clutter in my closet.

This morning I skipped up the street to LF (it’s only 1.5 blocks away – awesome) and that’s when it happened… I spotted the most perfect pair of clunky black wedges. It was love at first sight. I tried them on, stared at them starry-eyed, cradled them for a while, and then, with a heavy heart, said my goodbyes.

“You really cannot buy another pair of shoes”, I told myself. “Laura, get a grip and walk away.” And walk away I did. But my feelings came with me and I spent all morning being haunted by the thought of these shoes. And the thought of someone else wearing what could be mine. I think I might have a problem.

I checked my bank account a few times (like the balance was going to magically increase or something), and that’s when it hit me… I have a trash bag of old clothes and an overfilled closet in desperate need of spring cleaning. So I dove in – filled up another bag, and headed off to Crossroads Trading Co. to try and make some extra $$$.

I waited in angst as they rummaged through my beloved items (I form really strong attachments to my things), but was pleased to find out that I had earned exactly $8 more than I needed to buy the shoes. You know what happened next!

So, it is with a lighter wardrobe and taller shoes that I write… it’s true that every problem has a solution, sometimes you’ve just got to get creative.
